Welcome to the section of our school website dedicated to reading. Reading is is vital in so many ways to children. Children need to be able to read fluently to access 85% of the Primary School curriculum. Once they have learnt to read, they can read to learn. Reading isn't just about school though. It is a life skill that we need all the time. Words are everywhere around us; on t-shirts, cereal boxes, shop signs. Reading allows us to access information that we need to function. More than that however, reading is one of life's great pleasures. Books fire our imagination, allow us to visit places in our minds, feel emotions that we might not otherwise feel. They also allow us to empathise. The more we empathise, the more we understand the world around us and the people in it. Now that has to be a good thing doesn't it?
This page will hopefully become a source all the information you will need about reading in school. Look out for lots of stuff about our new Phonics Scheme, 'Little Wandle'. Look out for lots of lists of books that we recommend. Look out too for updates on our library. Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything you would like to see on here as well. We're open to your ideas and thoughts. Contact Mr Phillips via Class Dojo if they're anything is you think we can help with.
